Hi, i'm so glad to have found this, as I received a parking fine after visiting my mum in hospital on 6th January this year. I parked in A and E drop off and then returned within 20 minutes to find a parking space. I had a blue badge with me too.

I was just about to pay this online (at a reduced rate of £40 if paid by 24/01) when I came across this thread. What should I do? Should I pay it? I don't think I am in the wrong, but at the same time, I don't want to pay something if I don't have to (if this is a scam?)

P.S I live in Scotland

Please help!

Thank you

  • Get in touch with the hospital and explain to them. I understand that Northumbria NHS can, and usually do, override the Parking Eye tickets.

But in the meantime bang an appeal in to PE based on the usual points of no GPEOL, No Contract etc.

As if people do not have enough to worry about when going to / visiting hospital without having to watch your back with the parking malarky.

Send a pm to martmonk, this is 'his' local Hospital isn't it? This thread below was about this Hospital only yesterday that I see you found already, so you can click on martmonk's name unless he replies here first:

As you live in Scotland you cannot be liable anyway as registered keeper, as POFA2012 doesn't apply to you. Do not imply who was driving in any posts here nor in any complaint letters/emails that martmonk mentions to you.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thank you for the speedy reply. I will definitely follow your advice. It's sickening to think that this company can take advantage of people, especially at hospitals, where parking is the last thing on their mind!

Thank you very much. I will wait a short while before messaging him, but that's a relief. Thanks for the advice :)

As coupon mad says you are in Scotland and the option to ignore exists, however to save the hassle of receiving a continued stream of threatograms just contact the hospital directly.

They will cancel it, the record in situation such as this where the trust has received your complaint is 100% cancellations.

You can either post on patientopinion.org.uk and wait a few days for the trust to respond, which they will as in this case recently https://www.patientopinion.org.uk/opinions/131981

Or simply email joanne.mackintosh@northumbria-healthcare.nhs.uk who is the person in the patient opinions team who freely gives her email address on that site with the offer to help. She will have it cancelled for you.

You should also ask her to take details of your blue badge and you'll be added to their database of exemptions for future visits.

I would also appeal to pe in the meantime just so you have the POPLA code as a fall back. As I said though I would expect it to be cancelled.
