ncaalerts

Options
I received an e-mail today from 'ncaalerts' who I have never been in contact with before, as far as I can remember. I can see it goes on to give my name and it is supposed to be a warning about e-mail scams. However, I have not actually opened the email as I am scared it is a scam in itself! As I don't know where they would have got my details from.

On googling 'NCA' it seems to be something like 'National Crime Agency', that's all I know.

Has anyone else had one of these emails, and can anyone shed light on this?

What software do you use for reading emails?
If your software allows you to view the header, then you'll see if it really came from the address it appears to have come from and if it was really sent directly to you.

Most of the time you can open an email without being hit with a virus. The problem comes if you download attachments.
Check your anti-virus software is up to date before doing anything!
1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Is it ncaalerts@yourbank.co.uk ? Is the name you can see the same name that your bank knows you as? Then it's just a warning from their fraud team about scam e-mails. (I'm guessing it's actually just a release from NCA that they are expected to pass on).
I need to think of something new here...

Oh, hovering over the sender's name I can see it is from 'ncaalerts@santander.co.uk'. I do have a small saving account with them, although they are not my main bank. I guess it is OK to open, then?

I got an email earlier in the week from Santander(correct email address), saying there was a number of scam emails doing the rounds. Not to open attachments etc and report to Santander.

Safe to open - it's probably the email donnac is talking about.

• The NCA is the "new" SOCA (Serious & Organised Crime Agency); basically a country-wide Police force.

Or click on a link.
It's someone else's fault.

I received this email this morning, the strange thing is it's addressed to my mother who doesn't have an account with Santander. (I read my emails online through yahoo so nothing downloaded).

It looks genuine but I suggest no-one clicks any of the links.

I've forwarded the email to phishing@santander.co.uk.
Wearing my other one today.

I had exactly the same email from Santander today with my full name in the text. The only problem is I don't bank with Santander and never have. I find this very suspicious.

Is your email john.smith@gmail.com or johnsmith1971@yahoo.co.uk or something similar with your full name in it?
