Old stop !!!! - cap it off

Hey

We have two stop cocks in our house.

One of them has nothing feeding off it.

A plumber has recommended to dig down into our concrete floor, cap it off and then concrete over.

I have no idea, from the meter, where the pipe tee's off.

Is what he suggests safe?

Yeah it's safe. Are they both coming off the metre?

I cant say for sure, i would think so?

    How can i check?

Run lots of water and see if the meter is moving?

I think I'm right in saying that the advice is to remove all pipework that isn't being used.

You don't want old, redundant pipes full of stagnant water - could be a breeding ground for legionella type nasties.

That's certainly one of the things our builder is advising us to do, where we've removed a radiator but probably aren't going to re-install one - i.e. not to just leave the old pipes under the floor boards, but to rip 'em out.

    Hi

I would love to remove it, but i have no idea where it would tee off from the meter.

Maybe the plumber will. We don't have the money to dig down into the ground.
