MOTs
Just read the article on using council MOT stations to get a car MOTd. Thing is, if the car failed, you'd have to get the work done somewhere else (or do it yourself) for the retest. But as the car has failed, you wouldn't be allowed to drive it on the road in order to get the work done. Am I understanding this right?

Provided your original MOT certificate still has some time to run, you'll be fine to drive on the road till it expires. As long as a valid MOT Certificate covers the car, you're ok0

Unless they condem it on the spot you can drive to & from a pre-arranged MoT test or repair place.
You might be on shakey ground if the council MoT place is 20 miles away & there's a garage just round the corner from where you live, ISTR someone getting done for this but can't remember the outcome0 -
a) You should get your MOT plenty of time before your old MOT expires, just in case.
b) You can, as above, legally drive a car without MOT to a PREBOOKED MOT test centre.0 -

If your previous MOT is in date you can drive whereever you like, but it's best to get problems sorted out.0
