We had some financial problems a few tears ago that we've been paying the price for but are coming to the end. I finally found out about checking my credit rating and have been checking, but I have a default from May 2012 that I disagree with, but I don't know if I'm wrong, could someone advise me please?
I took out a 2 year contract with t mobile for a broadband dongle thing which came with a laptop, I was told at the time that as 2 years were up it would stop. The broadband was only used once or twice in the first couple of months, then never again, but I continued to pay on time for the full 2 years and a month, I then cancelled my dd because they hadn't stopped it and thought that was it, I didn't even have an account number with them and had never received any correspondence from them throughout the time so thought I was right.
I then received a letter saying I owed money, so I phoned them, and they said I had to give a months notice. I explained I'd never even used it but had paid perfectly, which he agreed with but still said I had to give a months notice.. After some discussion he agreed to remove the charges under the circumstances and all was sorted. He said another letter had been sent out to me but to ignore it, so I received that and did. I heard no more from them. Then when I've checked my credit rating I have a default on there for £54, is there anything I can do? I fully dispute owing this but I know they'll say I do owe it. Like I say I received nothing from them about this so had no idea until I found it on my credit file
Any help gratefully appreciated, this puts my credit sorting out 3 years behind

Have you contacted the company in question and explained this?0

Or contact the CRA and they will query it with the original company who registered the account in default0

They didn't have to remove the charges, as you were liable to pay them. Cancelling a direct debit only cancels the payment, not the contract.
They don't have to remove the default. What will your verse be?

I know they don't have to, but he'd told me he had removed it, and then they never wrote to me again, so I assumed he'd done as he said. I've never heard another thing from them so had no idea that thy hadn't removed the charges, until I checked my credit file a couple of weeks ago, that's why I disagree with it0

If they agreed to wipe the charges after defaulting you, then they don't have to remove the default, but should mark the account as satisfied. You should complain in writing to achieve this.
If they deny the conversation ever took place, you might struggle to prove it unless you have something in writing. What will your verse be?

That's what worried me that it was verbal. They agreed to wipe the charges way before they could have defaulted me. They wrote to me when the first payment was missed and that's when they agreed, and as I heard no more I assumed it was done0
