Living Social won't refund for voucher not honoured

Hi

I am in limbo between Living Social and Puma Carlton Hotel Edinburgh, in relation to a voucher i bought in november 2013, and for which neither company want to honour their side of the deal - can someone please advise what i do next?

the hotel can't offer me any dates that suited, or that i was looking for and more annyoingly - the voucher is for a standard room, and the hotel had standard rooms on the dates i wanted, but just not "living social standard rooms". after 3 attempts to use my voucher, the hotel reservations representative suggested i ask LS for a refund. i politely explained to LS that the hotel couldn't honour the voucher etc, on the 7th of January. AFter nearly 4 weeks of me chasing them to deal with me, i received an email saying, no refund, case closed. So what do i do now?
both companies have displayed ZERO customer service, and i'm out of pocket for a voucher i can't use.

any suggestions on how i escalate my complaint would be much appreciated!!

wouldnt it be easier to ask the hotel to give you availability?
    then work from there?
How wide is the the spread of dates you are looking for?
  • Might be worth getting back on to living social and insisting on a refund as I had a similar problem with a hotel in paisley, I contacted living social to say the hotel would not honer the deal as they were fully booked on the dates I wanted, I got a full refund without any hassle. If not could you sell it on to a friend or family who would be able to go on the available dates?

Now what I do is, if I see a deal online I phone the hotel right before buying it to say " if I get a living social voucher will there be availability on such and such a date" ? come off the phone buy the deal and phone the hotel back right away with the code.

It's not LS's fault that there's no availability for your preferred dates.

Just spend the voucher for a future preferred date when there is availability.

Is the hotel able to offer you several dates that you can use the voucher? If so you may not have a leg to stand on.

AFAIK with these sorts of vouchers, they are not obliged offer you a date that suits you, they just have to have some dates available for use with the voucher. Unless you are very flexible about dates, these sorts of vouchers are best avoided.

We were in a similar situation with a groupon hotel voucher and in the end asked the hotel what dates it could be used for and just took one of their dates.
