From time to time this type of thing appears in the church newsletter - you might try a couple of local churches?
  • Agree with orangesandlime. We've always had better quality responses to flatmate ads through Gumtree than from Spare Room but I find the key is to write quite a detailed description of what the house is like, not only facilities-wise but as a place to live, and what kind of a person you're looking for to fit in with the rest. And I always ask for the people to email us in the first instance and tell a bit about themselves, and TBH don't then bother to respond to anyone who just writes one sentence. My theory has been that scammers won't bother telling you what their favourite TV show is etc and so far it's worked!
