Shared water on rural property causes lender palpitations

So, just an update: we had it officially confirmed that the lender won't lend whilst we have a shared water supply.
We have a shared water supply on a terrace of 4 houses. The individual properties are billed according to the rateable value or they can agree to have a water meter installed in their property.
So the issue isn't the fact the water supply pipe is shared, the issue is the water board not accepting that there are 2 properties that share it.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Why would you sink a borehole? Tell the vendor that they have to cease the water supply to the bungalow to the property so the sale can go ahead? It should be the bungalow owner's problem to make sure they are sinking a borehole.
Also, see if you can get in touch with someone senior at the Water Company or go to Ofwat. The water company are unhappy as they feel they are being diddled out of charges. Although the water charges are being paid for. Standing charges would not be shared etc.0 -
I wonder if teeing off the water pipe just before your meter would make the water board accept that there is a property that needs its own billing?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Surely the pipe before th meter belongs to the water company - so only they could T off it? Which they would only do if they had already acepted the other property.......I wonder if teeing off the water pipe just before your meter would make the water board accept that there is a property that needs its own billing?0 -
You need to get Southern Water to cooperate &/or Ofwat. This will work, but whether it will in time for completion is another dicegame.
The current high water levels & associated emergencies mean you are asking at a bad time for them.
Is the bungalow owner as keen as you to get this sorted as two raised voices may be heard where one is not?
Water issues are common (as are ways of resolving them) in rural areas but this week may not be a good one for Southern Water...0
