Fitted bedroom. Bed won't fit!

High everyone. New to the forum. Need some advice on what to do. We bought a fitted bedroom from homebase in December. It's taken me over a month to decorate the room and fit it. Last night I finally finished and tried to put our king size divan bed in and it won't fit. We was told by the designer in homebase we could fit a 5 foot bed in but now it's in I've measured and the gap is only 4 foot 11 inches. Just wanted to know where I stand with it. I've never argued anything in a shop before but I'm quite upset about this as the fitted bedroom cost us over 2000 pounds. Do you think I could get some sort of compensation or do I just need to bite the bullet and get myself a smaller bed.
Thanks in advance
Dave

We was told by the designer...
You'll need something on paper like a measured design or statement about the bed fitting to get anywhere.0 -
Was it designed based on measurements they took of the room or measurements you gave?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
Sounds like a right battle ahead to be honest.
Can you post up a plan or drawing as there may be other suggestions based on the layout.
IE, it isn't impossible to skin an inch of the depth of units on occasion.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Hi thanks for the quick replies. Looks like I might be snookered then. The plan was on his computer. We never had a copy. I took the measurements however they are irrelevant as it's the gap between the 2 wardrobes under the bridging units that the bed won't fit and that is something I can't change no matter how big the room is. Also I have nothing in writing saying the bed will fit. It was just a verbal conformation. There is no way I can shave anything off as it would look terrible. I think I'll go to the store and try my luck to see if they'll do something like discount a smaller bed in good will.
Thanks again for your help guys
Ps this forum is awesome! Wish I'd found it sooner. Loads of great info on here.

Are you sure the gap is equal you might have 5' at the top and 4' 11" at the bottom.
Just had a thought if the gap is equal top and bottom how about putting a piece of wood the same type as the cupboard is built of between the wardrobe and the bridging unit both sides this should give you enough gap to get the bed in.0 -

Hi. The gap is 4 ft 11 inches (1500mm) top and bottoms so I it was never going to fit. Also I have fitted everything now including plinths, cornice and carpet so any adjustments wouldn't be possible. He would've known the gap was 1500mm and still told me a 5 foot bed would fit. Thanks for the suggestion tho. I'll post the outcome after I've been to the store.

Well if it's all finished and you fitted it, I think you'll have to take some of the blame.
The gap is 1500mm and that was on the plan so a bed 5' wide was never going to fit.
Measure twice cut once as they say.0 -
Looking online, most websites seem to give the size of a kingsize mattress as 150 cm by 200cm. Is it the mattress that doesn't fit, or is the bed base wider than the mattress?0

Yeah as hard as it is I agree with you. I just never questioned it as the computer said it would fit so I trusted that. The divan base is exactly 5 feet wide which is about 1525mm
It's so close to fitting it's killing me lol. 12.5mm each side and it'd fit!0 -

I nearly had the same issue, they were telling me the size of the mattress but coming up a lot wider with the bed posts.0
