cause fuel spills should be prosecuted (and yes I know the chance of catching them is minimal) The damage and accidents they cause is horrendous!

As all ready mentioned to a biker / cyclist they are lethal ....... I have not cycled / biked for nearly five years now .... BUT the smell of diesel still tends to start an adrenalin rush

Diesel can all so cause the road surface to beak up resulting in an emergency relay :-( This often causes longer hold up's on roads / motorways than the original spill/accident .

On the contrary - The chances of catching a lot of them are very good indeed. As the poster above points out, you often see vehicles with the telltale signs of overfilling/spillage all down the side of their tanks. Especially when pulling out of filling stations!

Also, I don't know how many times I've dodged a fuel spill all the way along a service bus route, seeing the spill get larger at every stop or one that goes in and out of loading bays. All of these are fairly easy to identify but I've never seen any willingness to use the existing and reasonably adequate regs beyond the occasional brief campaign.
