All I can add Janebo12 is to ensure they have plenty of clean water. Mine have been a bit on/off lay this year - not helped by one of the hens going broody and upsetting the others.

Is there anything you can do for a broody chicken ? Ive had my chickens for 3 months. I have 4 altogether. Just managed to get 3/4 eggs a day and now one has gone broody and wont get out or let anyone else in the nesting box

I had to deal with my broody one a few weeks ago, then she relapsed and had to go back in. I used a broody cage as described in these articles. I felt mean putting her in there (by the way, I added a scrap of corrigated plastic roofing I had lying around to stop her getting wet), but she was right as rain in a few days and the girls are all so much happier now.

Thanks for the advice and the link to the website, seems to be more common then i thought. This weekend we are going to build the broody box and give that a try.
  • Quite a lot of rain yesterday ... so one of the chickens (after only having them since last Sunday) decided to come and have a nosey in the kitchen and keep dry!

Hello everyone, a quick question if i may, I have a broody hen, today is day 21, i went to the allotment to check on her, i can hear a cheeping sound and when i looked at the egg there is a small hole, how long will it take for the chick to break out totally, she started with 12 eggs, now she has two left, i am so excited, i love my girls and feel really responsible for them,

Mine do that too, two of them sit on the floor and the other flies up onto the draining board and stares into the sink :D

It would appear that the other 2 are also as nosey now too.

Just as I was about to go out and put them back in their run, all 3 of them appeared in the kitchen to have a general mooch about.
