Katharine, you need to get OH to find the lead for your camera so we can all see your chicks
I sat out with a cup of coffee last night and let my littlest babies out their run into the garden. They had a great time! Mum get's let out with the other hens now, as she's started laying again, but it's nice to see the babies scurrying around with the older ones, too.
2 broody hens here but I've marked an 'X' on 4 eggs and that's all they are being left with, it's easy to spot the fresh eggs each day.I reserve the right not to spend.

I would love to but he's not known for his skills in remembering or finding things!
They all had free mealworms from the petshop today, spoilt little chooks.
One of the chicks escaped from the broody coup today and couldn't find his way back, DH put him back in. I have noticed that the lightest maran doesn't have furry legs, what going on there I wonder, chicken woman has just the french marans togther? Of the marans one is black, one is very dark grey, one light grey, and the lightest is a greyey-yellow. So I'm not sure what they will become apart from the black and mid grey one.0 -
re dummy eggs.
Why not use an old egg by marking a big D or whatever in marker pen -so it doesn't end up on your breakfast table ?"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170 -

Many years ago we had a neighbour who kept chickens and a cockerill and the next door neighbour complained about the early morning noise. The owner of the chickens promised to get rid of his cockerill if the complainant would personally come round and wring his neck because there was no way he was going to do it. The neighbour didn't have the guts to do it. When he complained again, the owner reminded him that the offer was still open but he still couldn't bring himself to do it so the cockerill survived. The complainant eventually moved away so maybe you and your cockerill will be lucky.0

PS Kaat Lady - I would much rather have your crowing cockerill than the neighbours' incessantly barking dogs which we have to suffer round here!.0

I know mine are only 2 weeks old, but I suspect I only have two girls out of 7 chicks. Doh! It's a bit odd but the splash and black maran both have tails and longer wings that are the length of their body, and the two blues have no tail at all and short wings what's going on there I wonder?0

Hi Katherine,
If it's any help, my girls seem to develop their feathers quicker than the boys. Any luck finding the camera or phone lead to get us some piccies? I'm going to take a few more today, will post one of my youngest chicks, which are now 7 weeks old. The oldest ones ar almost 14 weeks and the lone Silkie (she now has friends) is almost 17 weeks old. It doesn't seem any time at all since the first egg hatched, time is flying by!I reserve the right not to spend.
