The coop is returning this week. Have made enquiries with a local supplier for girls, and as i get paid this week all is looking good.

Can't wait, have missed my old girls pottering about. The school girls are lovely, but it's not the same.

Probably a blue Haze, Light Sussex and a brown hybrid. Three different colours so we can tell them apart.

Found another site cyril bason, just waiting for delivery charges to see if they're better value. They have a better range of birds to choose form.

Hi all Have aquired 3 brown hybrids this evening as the local pet lady aquired them and wanted bantams so offered them on my local fb page.
No info on them and it all seems a bit fishy, they have been put in the run now that rita and primrose have gone to bed in the shed,
I am a little concerned that one is maybe poorly, they are 3 brown hens but one has a mahooosive comb that hangs down, not standing up at all and it isnt pink like the others, it is a pale white pink, it also has a very pale whitish pink face, their legs are healthy and they dont seem to have any mites, not acting unwell and this maybe to do with cross breeding, I just wondered if anyone could give advice, the local pet lady said the woman that had them kept them in a garage and they started off with 5 eggs and ended up with 40 chooks.. Hmmmm even being an amateur it all sounds a bit weird, is there anything I should be looking for, they are very friendly and seemed to be very thirsty, possibly why the comb is limp??? Im not sure, I will try to take a photo tomorrow, any advice welcome. Oh I have named them, Dorothea, Agnes and Petunia.
They were a little confused and were pecking at the shed to get in so I picked them up and placed them all in the coop, they all settled well and asleep now after food and water.:o

Quick update re the ropey chooks....
All made it through the night, although floppy comb Dorothea and Agnes didnt want to come out of the coop without some encouragement this morn.
Today they have had some probiotic natural yoghurt with sultanas etc, proper quality layers pellets and some apple cider vinegar mixed into their water, so I'm hoping they will start to look a bit healthier soon,
I could see a greasy bum on one of them which I don't think is a good sign, all have had a good dousing with Diatomacious earth and loads put in the bedding in the coop, I have also noticed that they are missing the feathers from just above the crop area, lower neck, around the front, no discharge from beaks and all eating and drinking well.
I have sectioned them off from my other girls and will continue this for at least a week or 2 as I plan on worming them tomorrow and for the next 7 days, plus my other 2, mum and babies will worm another time as they are in their own hutch and don't need it at such a young age.
I'm quite cheesed off that they must of been left in bad conditions, but glad that I am able to rehome them and they have been given a chance to enjoy their new life....:T
1 laid an egg today but I have decided that we dont want to eat it until i know they are all well....

  • Isn't a big floppy comb a sign of overheating? Could they have been ex batts?

You sound like you have everthing undercontrrol. love the names.
  • Now how the hell did chocolate orpington and lavender laced wyandotte bantams find their way into my run?
