Giger So sorry to hear about your girls. Hope you find the way he found his way in.

Thriftkitten the photo is so cute but mum does look quite fierce. Or is she just cross at being disturbed?

Oh how that is music to my ears ionahenor.... I am petrified of Marj hahhha she really is a big strong bird and when she was broody was a little mare to get off the eggs for excersize.......Oven gloves, goggles and body armour jobbie!!! But believe it or not she was always the one that was picked on before when all in the run together,
Rita took a chunk out of her today whilst I let her out to give them all a taste of the big run, babies and all, Rita didn't take too kindly to the babies, so I quickly put them back in their seperate hutch and run, Primrose was very gentle and just snifffed the babies.

A while ago someone asked where they could get cheap wood chippings from.

I got some from a tree surgeon for £20 for 5 x 1tonne bags. I also found out that my local authority gives it away free but you have to go and collect it/bag it yourself.

Don't think so Coolertrickerchick. We have used it before but it's a good idea to leave it piled up for a few weeks before using it. It gets quite hot as it starts to break down. This is made up of oak and sycamore. Not sure what the council wood chippings will be.

Hi there - wonder if I can get some advice from you guys. I keep 4 bantam chickens. Three of them are Pekin crossed with normal sized chickens and they are about 2 years old. They have all been pretty good layers, averaging 5-7 eggs per week.

My white chicken ( I can't remember the breed of her mum but she is white with a large floppy red comb) was laying eggs normally until about 2 months ago. Her eggs got softer and softer and now she doesn't lay any. She looks perfectly well though. Is that just the end of her egg laying days or is there another reason?

Good Morning . It could be the end of her fertile life or she might start again probably next year. In the meantime I would increase the level of protein in the diet (cat food) and bake and crush some egg shells to give them, to strengthen any eggs that maybe laid. HTH

Thanks for that advice but chicken is now not v well at all. Tail down, looking v sorry for herself. She managed to eat and drink a little so she might pull through. Going on holiday in 2 days though so that complicates things.
