Don't you have problems with the badgers and the hens?
We made our run fox-proof but it's almost impossible to make one that's badger-proof.0 -
Update on the broody hen, we moved her to another rabbit hutch, a newer one borrowed from a friend, I purchased a 5 foot wide run which I have bolted onto the hutch so Marj and babies will be able to come out at their leisure but none of the others can bother them although they can still see them.
Chicks are due to hatch on fri or sat, I think more likely saturday as she settled on them on the friday afternoon so not sure if I count that day.
Quick question.... should I lift Marj and spray the eggs with warm water or do I leave her be and let her do it her way,, heard somewhere that I am supposed to dampen the eggs to make hatching easier. Insticts tell me to leave alone but just wanted to check.

that's what i was wondering - there are badgers in the field behind - so i guess its only time before the badgers come into the garden and get at the run....
any tips on trying to make it badger proof?

I had an eglu and run when I first started with the hens. There is a Badger Sett and entrance in the next doors wood, very close to where the hens were but we didn't have any problems with them fortunately.
I did though.
They frightened me half to death when I first went up in the dark, to close the eglu house. I would often hear 'hush hush hush' on the banks. It took me a while to figure out that it was the badgers. They were changing their bedding and were dragging the new grass/leaves etc along the bank to the entrance. :rotfl::rotfl:The woods are spooky enough without their help.
We have more bother with the squirrels who chew their way into everything.:(0 -
