Thank you heather for your reply. We have a little wooden door that we close every night. What sort of squeezy out space do they need to get out. I would hate it to be just big enough for a fox to get in.today I was so tired after a very late night but knew I had to be down there for 7 to let them out. They get impatient when it's a sunny morning! To do is to be. Rousseau

Gosh Symon haven't they grown quickly. Are they Robins?
Lots of cheeping from our nest too but no sight of how many.
My girls don't get let out until 8am sometimes 8.30. They do chunter a bit if I'm late but I just apologise. When it was very hot I left the eglu door open.0 -

Truly, leaving the pop hole open should only be done if the chicken house is inside a fox proof run, so that there is no chance of a fox getting in through the pop hole.
I have those integrated house and run set ups, where the run is part of the hen house. The runs are small but safe enough for the girls to get out to their food and water until I go let them out into their big run and their free range area.
I just leave the pop hole open an inch or 2, it has a sideways sliding door and the girls push their shoulders through and slide it open to let themselves out.0 -
Checked this morning and nest is empty. two of the littl'uns are buzzing round the shed, Mum still around keeping an eye on them.
So that's it for now. Can't help feeling a bit of the "empty nest syndrome"Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!

Well you've played your part in helping nature and keeping the kids safe-so take a bow!"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170
