My cleavage is cheeping! Another chick hatched yesterday and again the broodies ignored it. We brought it down and popped it in the box with the pekin mum and she took it under her, but this morning she rejected it. I've got a box with a hot water bottle wrapped up in a towel, but chick doesn't like being on its own, so now it's down my top and it's quietening down.
We used to do that with the parrots. I think its because they can hear your heartbeat and it soothes them. Also helps that its toasty warm down there
My cleavage is cheeping! Is the best way to start a post ever hahaSealed Pot Challenge member #071 VSP #4

So cute! It's another black one, but it has a yellow face and chest. I've popped it up with Petal and her two chicks. She was curious, touched its beak with hers. The two chicks have not exactly bullied it, but puffed up their chests to show that they were above it in the pecking order.
I'm hoping everything stays ok, otherwise I'll have to bring it back down again.
I've just realised that Belle's silver sebright eggs are due to hatch today or tomorrow. It's all go here!0 -

It is the way you tell 'em Giger :rotfl: I hope Petal and her pair accept the newby.
I've been offered some 3 week old chicks! I shouldn't, but I'm so very, very tempted
Chicken !!!!!! is on video! Upload will be attempted later (I'm so useless at this technical stuff, I'm more a "cheeping cleavage" kind of girl) :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I've had to bring chick back down. The broody coop and run are on uneven ground which means there are tiny gaps underneath the edges. When I went up to check on them just now, new chick had managed to escape and one of the warrens saw it and picked it up by its wing before tossing it.
So, it's back with me, atm exploring the laptop!0 -
Hello, sorry for not posting back about the chook with the bad foot, I've been a combo of ill, in work and then today again ill
So, I took Squeeky to the vets, she was a little better on her foot but still limping. Thankfully he's fine with chooks too.
He was unsure of bumble foot too as he couldn't see an entry point, but he gave her a shot of antibiotics and vits in case it was and told me what to watch out for if it doesn't just slowly get better. He actually thinks it's ligament damage (but gave her a shot incase it was bumblefoot). I did feel bad as she's the chook that usually stands right next to me or even on top of my shoe if I stop for more than two mins and likes a fuss so I have an awful feeling I trod on her foot not knowing she was there when I had my head in the coop cleaning it out that day:(
He did tell me not to feel bad, accidents happen and that at the very least so far they've had the best two months of their whole combined life (they're all ex-batts) so I felt a little better
No idea how much the jab cost as the receipt was just written as one total but I was surprised it was so cheap. I took the kitten in at the same time for his first jabs and the pair of them for their jabs and consultation came to £24. Phew
Aawww the chicks sound lovely Gigervamp
ionahenor2, hope your chook is on the mend and I wonder if the bugs in the garden run for their lives when your OH goes out in the garden yet?April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
Hi Shortie Hope your little ones foot mends soon. It's been my turnto turn stones over the last couple of days. I have to be on guard duty with her because the other two are still bullying her.
While they were out today I put her in their pen for a dustbath. She is on the mend, tum not as swollen and she is eating much more. Lots of added protein from the outdoor deli.
Good luck with the new chicks Giger. And Heather.....go on you know you want to.

I think there are three chicks as far as i can tell from the photo. My camera was on full zoom to get the picture so was not too close. As for new girls, it will happen, i just have had a few issues recently that have meant it is on the back burner. I still have my girls in the school though, as well as a bunny and two guinea pigs.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

Hi Gigervamp How is the new chick doing today?
Just a note to say that Stoogy is doing fine all by herself. It is coming up to almost 2 weeks since Chucky died, but she is coping really well. there are plenty of wild birds and a squirrel to chase in the garden and she is still laying.
She was bottom of the pecking order and i think that this is the reason she is flourishing all alone.
PS I have also new chicks--blackbirds in a fir tree and Mum and Dad are really busy, but you can here the calling for food from the young ones when the parents come back with some grub.
Hope everyones chucks are getting plenty of dust baths in the warm weather."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170
