Hey.... Lets keep Chickens..!

Hi everyone. lots of new people.
Mine are going mad for elderberries at present. They keep going into next doors wood to eat the fallen berries. I finish up having to bribe them back with a sprig of berries.
Fireworks don't tend to bother mine too much. We have an hotel down the road that has wedding fireworks every few weeks so they have got used to the noise. I think I bothered them more by going and checking they were alright. I'd just make sure they were shut up as soon as they are in bed, saying that Lettie the cheeky madam comes out (if I use the torch) as I am clambering in their WIR to shut their eglu door. Then it's one out all 3 out.0 -
i think my ginger thinks she is a cat and is testing out her 9 lives. she's been eggbound, broody attacked and then went missing for 24 hours and turned up last night right as rain - she got out of the run Wed eve and I expected her back at bedtime but she didn't turn up - searched and searched for her and worried sick as we have foxes in the woods nearby. Still no sign thurs morning but when I got back from work she was not only back but shut up safely in the run!! No idea who found her but will go round the neighbours at the weekend and see if it was one of them.
Yest was our first eggless day - it was so cold and dark I don't blame themPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Had 2-3 weeks of no eggs now but mine are ex batts so I think they deserve the rest. Just to add that I went to Pets At Home a couple of weeks ago (don't buy food there, too expensive) and they did some little hang up blocks - similar to peckablocks. Looked predominantly like corn/grains stuck together for £3.95. Thought I'd give them a try and very impressed with how well they've stayed together. Much cheaper than having to buy peckablocks online, particularly when you have to pay postage. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Did'nt realise this thread was still going. I posted back on page 30ish.......lol
I still have my 3 girls and they are now part of our lives. Only 2 laying at the moment as Masala is moulting. They are definitely the best pets I've ever had and are hilarious :rotfl:0 -

Totally agree, our chickens are an absolute joy (most of the time!)
When I let them out in the morning I leave them in the pen for half an hour so they will have a good meal of layers pellets before they start foraging. Then I go out with the corn bucket and the sight of them running full tilt across the garden makes me happy for the whole day.
We still have one passenger who has never laid an egg, don't know if she ever will but she's still lovely. The other three are still laying well and haven't started moulting yet, so I've got that pleasure to come.
ETA OH v hens? No contest.Oh dear, here we go again.0
