Buildings insurance mis sold to me

Options
Hello,
Back in 2008, when i was young and niave, I was sold a mortgage, mortgage protection insurance and buildings/contents insurance all by the mortgage advisor as the estate agents,

I cancelled the mortgage protection in 2010, however it would appear that I have been paying buildings insurance with these people as well as with my freeholder.

Assuming the person who sold the insurance to me knew I was buying a leasehold property, I should not have been sold buildings insurance right?

I contacted the said insurance company,a they will refund me, but am I entitled to compensation for this and also the mortgage protection plan they sold me?

Look forward to hearing from you

As a leaseholder, you should have been aware that part of your service charges would have included buildings insurance. You've been lucky enough to have a refund of the monies paid from the insurance co for the policy you took out through them & compensation doesn't come into it. You are not out of pocket as all premiums have been refunded.

As for mortgage protection, this is something that most people should have, unless you are quite well off & would comfortably have enough in the bank to pay your mortgage should you become too ill to work or unemployed. The policy was not mis-sold to you. You had the ability to refuse it at the time if you felt it was something that you really didn't need.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

The insurance company have refunded the property insurance premiums, so you are no worse off than you would have been if the insurance had never been taken out. 'Compo' would not be appropriate - you haven't had a load of stress or trauma due to having two policies in place at the same time. You've had a good result, so be happy with what you've achieved, don't be greedy for more.

As for the mortgage payment protection, I'm no expert in that area, but I understand it's generally a good thing to have. What are your reasons for thinking it was mis-sold?

There is no compensation to pay in cases like this. A refund of premiums is the norm.

Why do you think you should not have mortgage protection insurance (and what exactly does it protect -i.e. life assurance, income protection etc)
