Idiots guide for tv/virgin/bluray and surround sound.

Help.

I have a tv, blu ray, virgin TiVo box and a sony surround sound system ( HT -AS5). When I got it my boyfriend connected it up and it all worked.

Since then I have had to buy a new tv and all the wires got disconnected ( informed it won't be trouble setting it back up) however I have now only managed to get the tv connected to the TiVo box and not through the surround sound. Nothing else works.

I'm fed up having an expensive couple of dust collectors as I can't use them.

Can any one tell me in complete simple English what hdmi's have to go where to get everything working.

Ps can't ask the boyfriend as he is an ex boyfriend now.

Thank you in advance xx

What inputs and outputs does the TV have? And which have you connected the TIVO to?

What type of connection does the surround sound system have?

Do you have the instruction manuals for any of the items?

OK I'll have a go. I'll assume that you don't ever use the TV sound, and always use the Sony for sound, that will keep the connections simple.
HDMI cable from the Sony to your TV (labelled TV OUT on the Sony), put it into HDMI 1 on your TV.
NOW - it looks like you can connect 3 HDMI devices to the Sony. Again, one HDMI cable each from the TiVO, into SAT/CATV IN would make sense.
Blu Ray, HDMI cable into BD IN, and you've still got an HDMI input spare on the Sony.
So, your TV will have Freeview HD built in I guess. You MAY be able to choose to listen to that through the TV speakers or the Sony.
For TiVO or Blu Ray, you'll listen through the Sony, and just select the correct input. Put the TV onto HDMI 1, and you'll get the picture from the Sony.
