Any help would be greatly appreciated as I feel this is a blatant money making scam and don’t really know where to go from here and whether just ignoring it is the best way to go

Thank you!

Can you point us to the thread where the advice you received was to ignore please?

That hasn't been the given advice on this site for some considerable time now, and certainly not in Aug 2013.

That said you've ignored now and lost your chance to appeal and have it quashed.

You can do 2 things - complain to the landowner/retailer who can have it cancelled and ignore until and unless you get genuine letter before court action.

You can see for yourself how many times this lot have proceeded to court in the 12 months to Oct 13 https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/179544/response/444525/attach/html/3/A%20FINAL%20REPLY%20TO%20LEWIS%2085865.doc.html

You MUST read the NEWBIES sticky for reference and in case you get another of these 'invoices'.
  • Thanks, just looked at the thread again and looks like it was from about a year ago that people where saying ignore it,

I take it something has changed and this is no longer the best course of action now then?

If they do try and take me to court is there any limit on how much they can increase the cost to as its upto £149 now and i dont know whether its worth risking incurring more costs, just feels wrong paying them that much for such a minor thing

    Thanks

did you follow the link I posted? They don't do court. But in the unlikely event they did you will win if you follow the help and advice available here.

Expect an avalanche of threatograms over a prolonged period but ignore unless you get genuine letter before claim or court papers. AND COMPLAIN to the retailer.

doesnt really matter what they say you owe, as you will only pay whatever the court says if it ever went to court

If I sent you a threatogram I could say you owe me £500 this week , £600 next week , and keep going, totally irrelevant if I had to justify myself in court , isnt it ?

nobody is even saying that what they are doing is legal, never mind if their "costings" are legal , the £60 and £100 charges are not a genuine pre-estimate of loss so clearly they are not "legal" and they dont even meet the BPA CoP either

the only "legal" aspect of this would be if the land is owned by a private landowner and if that landowner took you to court for trespassing, that is the only legal thing that is valid here

then that landowner would have to sue for" damages" caused by your trespass on his land, if there were any costs or damages that he could apply to the court for

that is the only thing I can see here that would amount to possibly being "legal"

ok but if i ignore the letters that im likely to recieve can they legally start adding more to the amount i owe them?
LOL! Yes they could send one asking for £1million, of course. Who cares what they ask for? You don't appear to have stopped to read the 'NEWBIES' thread yet, linked by Redx (but then you didn't need a link as it's at the top of the forum and is a FAQs sticky, to be read first by newbies..). Anyway it has advice about these debt collector letters and what your (reduced) options are when you've ignored the 2013 advice to appeal.

You have just failed to turn up for the 'battle' (POPLA) you would have won - but we are telling you this PPC is unlikely to start a war over it anyway. Always read CURRENT advice on a forum...the stickies are at the top to help you...and were there all along, even in August.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:
