LLoyds Bank wrong infromation on credit file

I wrote to Lloyds tsb in September 2012 asking them to update my credit file to show the correct information. I received a letter from them saying it would be done within two weeks.

They updated it to show the account satisfactory and the date was amended to the correct default date. I was then able to obtain a mortgage.

I recently obtained my credit file from Equlifax and Experian and both show the balance outstanding and the default date is wrong.

I have phoned them on several occasions to ask them to fix it but they cant find any trace of my account and Lloyds are telling me to contact Tsb, Tsb are saying its nothing to do with them and to call Lloyds back.

The original debt was part of a trust deed I entered in November 2007 and Lloyds TSB received their dividend in February 2011.

Any ideas on how I sort this?

thanks

Which agency's files did they correct at the time? Did you check all 3 agencies and were all correct at this point?

    What default date is showing?

I wouldn't bother trying to phone over an issue like this. Write to whichever company is listed on the credit account entry on your credit file.

  • I checked all credit files in November 2012 and they all showed the amended data as satisfactory and default date as November 2007. They now show outstanding balance and default date as May 2008.

What a pain. But I would definitely write to try to get this resolved, chances of getting through the a suitable person on the phone is slim).

Another option you could try at the same time is to use experian or equifax to dispute the record. At the very least they should be able to query it with the correct company (i.e. whichever company has reported the incorrect data to them recently).

  • You definitely need to write to each of relevant agencies with evidence that the account has been settled. There i no point trying to deal with them over the phone.
  • thanks I will write to them again. I uploaded all the letters to eqlifax who came back to say they couldn't help and I have now cancelled the account with them. I will try sending all the paperwork to Experian.

Taking that on face value, then the record is Lloyds responsibility rather than the new TSB.

Doesn't matter who the debt is with. It is the organisation that is recording incorrect information on your file that is responsible for correcting it. In this case Lloyds.

Tell them that is it their name on the file as reporting the incorrect information, so they are the ones with the ability and duty to correct it. Not your problem if they can't find the account. Tell them that if they don't sort it you will be going to the ICO and FOS.
