It's not just MSE.
I have noticed a massive spike on other forums in spam posts, especially kitchens.

No, they are doing that to avoid the threads showing up in a forum search for "kitchens". i.e. they hope that if they misspell the word then they won't be picked up by any search done by someone clearing up spam.

Futile attempt though, as there are plenty of alternate ways of finding them.
