Panasonic Bread Maker

Options
I'm looking into buying a new Panasonic Bread Maker. Anyone know of any good deals on them at the moment? Best I've found is £92 from John Lewis but wondered if there are any others I've not yet come across.

Be happy with an SD-2500 as it does all I need but Id be happy with either the SD-2501 or 2502 models too if they are available somewhere cheaper.

  • Hi
I have had a few pannys and have had the new black one for a while now love it because it has a separate dispencer for the yeast along with nuts / fruit drop in , it also makes great jam .

The nut dispenser is great, had one on my old Panasonic machine, but it doesnt work with the gluten free setting so unless the higher up models are cheaper than the basic one its a bit of a waste paying the extra.

Never tried making jam though. Is it really difficult to clean the pan afterwards?

I bought one of the new panasonic breadmakers with the yeast dispenser etc. to replace my old panasonic one but have yet to make a perfect a loaf in the new one. The sides and bottom of every loaf have been a lot darker than the top and today's was so pale that it looked undercooked. I'm using the middle setting for colour which is what I used to use on my old one with no problems. I've also had two loaves which have risen more at one end that the other. I added a little lemon juice to the recipe today after reading about other peoples problems and it seemed to help with raising the bread evenly but I'm a bit concerned in case there is a fault with the new machine. Today's loaf was a rapid one and the others have been overnight. Does anyone else have one of these machines, and if so did you have any problems?

I've read that panasonic customer care line is pretty awful. The lid seems to be shutting ok. The last loaf it made tasted really good but it just wasn't quite right with the uneven crust. I'm going to make another loaf tomorrow night and if it's still the same problem with the top and sides different levels of 'doneness' then I think I'll take it back to Lakeland and swap it for another one. There are too many good reviews of this model out there to believe that they all cook like this.

Is this the 2502, the silver and black model? I've had one of these for about 2 years and had no problems. Occasionally I get a slightly lop sided loaf if I'm doing the smallest size, or sometimes the top has cracked slightly, but I put it down to not measuring the water accurately - it's hard to read the figures on the measuring cup. I usually do the 50/50 loaf on a light crust setting, not rapid. I previously had the earlier model and my loaves turn out the same as before. I would give it a bit longer to settle down but if there's no improvement I would take it back - Lakeland have a very good 'no quibble' guarantee.

What I do find irritating about the 2502 is the racket that the dispenser makes when it releases the yeast, other than that I'm perfectly happy with the machine.

It is that one. I hadn't noticed the noise on the yeast dispenser! I'm not sure if that is just a gimmick having the yeast drop in or if it makes a difference. I'll give it another couple of loaves and see how it goes.

I'm sure it's a gimmick. They claim it's to stop the salt coming into contact with the yeast too soon and killing it but I never had a problem with my old machine when everything went in the pan. If I remember rightly, the yeast went in first and the salt last, with the flour in between to keep them separate. However, I rarely used the delay timer, maybe if the ingredients are hanging about in the pan for hours overnight before the machine starts mixing, then there is a very slight chance of the salt being dissolved by the water and somehow seeping through the flour to kill the yeast?
