Non dependant claim.

I had to move back in with my mum who is a council tenant and due to her age the rent was being paid. We informed the council and benefits were stopped. I am self employed and my earnings are low. As a non dependant they take your gross turnover as the figure which they work any entitlement from and not my net profile. My turnover has dropped for year 2012/2013 compared to the previous year. I just can't see how they use the materials that I have supplied as my earnings. The wording that is used is,
'The gross income for self employed non dependants is their total income with no deductions for
Business expenses, or
Tax and national insurance contributions'
Can anyone shed any light on this for me please???
