in Gone off!
Not sure if this is in the right section, please move it if not.
We have been given a £40 Sainsbury's voucher from moving our broadband to BT and im trying to think of the best way to spend it.
We normally do our shop at Tesco and my partner said we should just do our normal shop there this once to use it.
But, I was thinking maybe we could go there and just buy bulk store cupboard items and things that wont go off for ages.
Such as toilet roll, shampoos, tinned food, dog food etc,
That way we can then do our normal shop at Tesco but just buy items such as salads and fruits every week, things that don't last long but are needed to go with the other items to make a meal.
Am I making sense? Is this sensible or stupid??

Your way makes sense to me, but I would only buy things that are cheaper than they usually are in Tesco so your voucher goes further, or things that are a similar price but better quality/unavailable in Tesco. I had a Waitrose voucher a while ago (usually shop in Tesco) so I stocked up on things like dishwasher tablets that were slightly cheaper than I'd seen them in Tesco for quite a while and the husband got a few lots of meat that were better quality.0

Personally unless you want to change your shopping habbits then I would use it to buy petrol and be done with it.0

They want £1.50 for a swede at Sainsburys but their organic onion @ £1 are good.
I shop often at Sainsburys and have found a few regular items which are very good value - such as their value frozen fish (6 nice pieces of Pollack for £1.68), value frozen lamb chops (under a fiver - suitable for curries and casseroles).
Tesco is probably better for things like value jam and other spreads and table sauces (mint sauce, apple sauce etc). The price of Sainsbury's whole chickens are shocking, but you can get three nice legs instead for about £2, and the same price for the belly pork (4-6 nice slices).
The one thing Sainsburys do is to reduce the price of a lot of meat towards the end of the day. Tesco hardly ever have meat reduced.
If I were you I'd go late to Sainsburys and see if they have a few bargains on offer you could stock up the freezer with.0 -
Totally depends on your personal circumstances - but I would use it to buy something "special" I wouldnt normally buy.0

All great ideas, thank you.:wave:0

Do you have the option of loading the remaining balance on to a gift card like at M&S? If so you could keep it and just use if for the best offers each week?
Or keep it (if there's no expiration date) for any small electrical appliances you need if any of yours break.
Or use it for birthday presents as i'm sure they'll be something in a big Sainsburys that someone you know would like.
Or keep it towards Christmas, especially if you buy things they hae offers on like wine or beer etc.
Or keep it as part of emergency fund if you have one.0 -

You can't use these gift cards in the petrol station as BT buy them at a discounted rate from Sainsbury's. The only gift cards you can use is the ones you buy instore.0 -

I don't know, never had anyone buy a gift card with a gift card lol.0
