Fairly new extension with a leaking roof

Looking for a little advice.
We had a kitchen extension built in which was finished in April 2012. The final payment was made to the building company a couple of months later and we have been happy with everything ever since.
The extension included a section of flat roof with a sky light. Unfortunately on 24/12/2013 we noticed a damp patch on the ceiling around the sky light, which got bigger and bigger the more it rained. We covered this with a tarp awning which stopped the majority of the leak.
We called the builder after the Christmas break and he sent one of their employees to look at it on 06/01/2014. They confirmed there was a leak (which was fairly obvious) and another chap visited us on 11/01/2014 (when it had finally stopped raining) to attempt a fix to the area where the flat roof joins the sky light.
Unfortunately this hasn’t fixed the leak so we’ve covered the area with a tarp awning again. We’ve been unable to contact the builder ever since, he’s not answered our phone calls.
So I guess the next step is to start writing to him, but before we do so I’m trying to establish if he has a legal obligation or otherwise to rectify this for us, or if we’re on our own.
So to summarise.
An extension completed less than 2 years ago now has a leak in the flat roof. We didn’t have any form of formal contract/warranty with the building company. Should we expect the building company to rectify this? Or would any help we receive from them be a gesture of good will and they’re under no obligation to do so.
Thanks.
