Help me work out my 'tower' watering issue please?
I have many, many white plastic food grade tubs (so no pvc issues to worry about). They are roughly the size of a 2L tub of ice cream.
I'm thinking I could stack say 6 or 8 of them and cut out a small section on the side of each so I could grow a small plant in each tub. Much in the same way people use empty plastic bottles to make planting towers.
My issue is watering. I'm not sure how I'd ensure water got to every tub equally.
Obviously I could drill holes or cut out a section of each lid and base so the water from the top would drain down through them all but I'm not sure that's the best way to ensure equal watering.
Be grateful for any ideas or suggestions.

You could try inserting a long piece of drain pipe (or other similar tube) with holes drilled out along its length vertically into your stacked up boxes. You then water into the top of the tube and the water leaks out along the length of the tube into the boxes.
I hope I've explained that properly, it's easier to do than to write....it works with my strawberry towers anyway.
You insert the watering tube whilst building the tower, keeping it as empty of compost as possible0 -
Thanks carly. I did think about doing that but wondered if the water would just quickly sink to the bottom of the pipe and the top tubs wouldn't get enough.
I wonder if I could insert some sort of wicking material into the pipe and have a strip coming off for each tub, maybe that would help each level get enough moisture.
Everything seems so much easier when it's horizontal, lol.Herman - MP for all!
