Filling in a window

Hello

We need to fill in a window in order to make a new kitchen.

What is the best way to do this?

Our plasterer said about putting plaster boarding over it. He would be fitting battens around the hole. Is this ok?

Or

Should we brick it in?

He knows the purpose of the room he is plastering. But would it be safe to install cupboards into the plasterboard?

Thanks

Is the window on an external wall ?

We had the same , we had the hole bricked up, insulated etc and plastered , that was for a door and window and cost us £600 , as its external , really you should do the same

edited to say , the reason being , part of our new kitchen was being installed on it

No - you would need to have something behind the plasterboard to fix the cupboards into. Is he intending for the battens you mentioned to be going across the void to allow this?

Regardless I would want it to be bricked up, insulated and then finished on the inside.

    Were going to do this.

Its about 40inchx50inch, so will get some breeze blocks in.

Frame it out, 18mm ply and then plasterboard - then you can hang what you like where you like on it.

As above, but put some insulation behind it first.
