Alliance & Leicster /Santander PPI claim?

I took out a car loan in 1997 with A&L. I've moved house 3 times since and have no paper work concerned with the loan. When I contacted Santander they quickly said that they had no record of it due to the length of time since the loan closed.

Are they just being chancers? Whats the best way to get them to investigate this further?

    If you dont believe them then spend £10 and do a data subject access request.

    I'm pretty sure I did take the PPI but really can't remember given how long ago it was.

    I didn't know about the data subject request - hence the reason for my posting.

    If the sar does find any data relating to the loan and it turns out you did have ppi, what would your reason for complaint be, given that you can't remember much about it?
