OS Daily Thread Wednesday 22nd January

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Hester - if your colleague is in the union, it may still be possible to bring a combined case.

My mum's birthday today, she would have been 92.

Need to dash as usual but will try and catch up later.

    Morning to all :)

Yesterday was a hard day, DD1 napped 10-1.40pm and I did 2hrs of ironing. But my shoulders and neck suffered (I tripped while DD2 was strapped to my chest and I twisted to save her being seriously injured and really hurt myself and have whiplash, it was 3 weeks ago now). I made DD1 mini toad in the hole for lunch, and made 2 lemon drizzle cakes.

Anyway DH called in the afternoon (he's going away for 8 days next week) and told me he'd be home just under 3 weeks then he's away for 4 weeks!!! We were expecting a 2 and a 1 week trip. So I was a bit upset about that and got a mild migrain from the stress.

Then FIL had a biopsy and a special scan for suspected cancer a few weeks ago. Yesterday evening we found out that the biopsy came back abnormal, the scan shows problems on both lymph nodes and into his stomach. He's having day surgery on Monday to have it removed and tested for cancer...

Then freezer surprise looked like chilli, and I reheated it while making salad, only for DH to get home and I noticed it was curry so had to put the salad in the fridge and make rice... For a late dinner! Well I wanted a surprise!!

So today a friend has invited me and the girls over for a change of scene after yesterday. So I have to tidy the house, put even more bread on and go out. I think I need it to be honest...

DH and I are upset about how long his next trip is (2 days short of a month) and it's 4 weeks lost overtime, and it's not like he gets paid a bonus for going. Financially we are worse off. Thank goodness for FaceTime, the girls will see him for 5 minutes every lunchtime.

Dinner tonight is Chicken Jambalaya :)

Hope everyone has a great day x

    Good Morning Everyone

JG - you sound like you are under it at the moment (((hugs))) and for you too Sistercas - hope you get through the day.

Woken up this morning to loads of rain :( need to pop out later so will see how sodden the fields are.

Todays plans same as ever, office this morning housework this afternoon.

One thing I did yesterday which I have been meaning to do for a while is open a credit union account. They were really lovely people and I am going to get OH to open one two and have convinced my sister, the only downside is their opening times, hopefully they will get more volunteers. When I know my work hours I will see if I can fit in some volunteering there.

Not sure what is for dinner, will have a rummage in the freezer shortly.

    Have a great day all.x

    Good Morning chums,
Congratulations islandmaid You sound absolutley chuffed to bits ,may I wish you both all the happiness in the world for your forthcoming wedding.

JG you sound like your having an eventful January honey,as you say Facetime is great My eldest DD uses it when she is in the U.S. to keep in touch with me when she is away on her holidays, we even use it at home if she can't get to see me with work commitments or bad weather. So much nicer than just texting or phoning.I hope your FIL surgery has a good outcome

    HH hang in there honey

TTFTM have you tried relaxation music, If I can't sleep it sometimes works just having the wireless on very softly in the background.

Well I have developed and full-blown grotty cold and am completely bunged up.I shall get the face steamer out when I get back from the school run and put some menthol in it and clear my 'tubes' out I think.
I went to quiz night after all, and we came 4th, but had a good laugh as well, and a nice evening.
Not much to do today, so will keep wrapped up warm and indoors I think,I have a decent library book to get stuck into which will help so lots of hot lemon barley water and tissues for me today :):):)
Not as cold this morning and no frost which is good
    Take care everyone

Can't believe it's still January!! Must get some cards for a couple of birthdays at the end of this month.

Will have a rummage in the freezer for something for tea - made DD a baked pot for her tea and burned the first one. Not sure what happened but it was a terrible smell! Grated enough cheese for me to have with a salad at lunchtime today but she ate it all. I have a tin of fish instead!

Not sure what the weather's doing yet, probably raining again. Going to meet a friend for coffee after work, her OH left her a couple of weeks ago and told her not to contact him so she's feeling more than a little fragile at the moment.

JG - Hugs to you. It may seem like a long time but if you get a few things organised the time should pass. Always good to have something to look forward to.
TTFTM - Hope sleep comes your way very soon.
    Sistercas - Hang in there!
    Feel better soon JackieO.

Have a good day everyone, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still dark, but very wet underfoot and raining steadily - it started sometime in during the night. At least there's no frost to scrap off the car.

DH up and getting ready for work.

Dinner last night was easy fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, Victoria sponge for dessert for those that wanted it. Tonight we will be having beef wellington, potatoes, veg and gravy - this was DS2's choice when I asked them both last week "what different sort of meal would you like to try?" Hope it's ok because it was a lot more expensive than I had expected - but will be a nice change if it all work's out ok. I don't know where he got the idea from as it's not something we've ever had before or talked about.

Managed to get another load in the WM and dried over the airer - so TD hasn't been in use since the weekend - but I do have the airer set up in the dining room - which I really don't like - but the clothes are getting dry over night - so I'm going to try to get into the habit of setting it up with clothes on in the evening so that they dry overnight and then take it all down in the morning. At least that way I don't have to keep looking at it all day.

Yesterday at work was a much quieter day although the weather here was awful, foggy, frosty and very slippery under foot. I had to fill in all day for someone else who was off sick doing a job that I'm not particularly keen on, but needs must etc. I'm only working until lunchtime today then I'm on days off, but I'm working on Saturday morning as we weren't doing anything and we are so desparately short of staff it just puts more pressure on everyone - the extra money will be welcome, as I'm doing another Saturday in 2 weeks time too.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

I'm very excited today. My DD rang last night and announced her engagement. Her and her partner had just come back from a short break in Rome where he had proposed to her :) They have been together for nearly seven years so it's about time!

I'm making cakes for DS2's birthday tomorrow. I think I am going to do '17' cupcakes with the big frosting on the top. Just hope it works ok.

    Islandmaid - Congratulations :)

    JulieGeorgiana - (((hugs)))

    Have a good day :)

    Morning all

Another day of doing as little as possible for me today, although it doesn't seem to be making any difference to pain level! So watching the tennis this morning then something on netflix in the afternoon.
