Plug in heating timer

Hi all,

I've recently bought a new house and inherited a plug in timer that works just for the heating.

It seems to work to turn in on in the morning but at night it turns off around an hour too early.

Could it just be that I need a new timer? I just hope that it has been turning off after I leave for work, otherwise it will have been on all day!

I doubt whether the boiler should be controlled by a plug-in timer in that way. I can't find the installation manual online but it would normally require a permanent live as well as a timed/call for heat live.

If there is a permanent live into the boiler, and the boiler is also connected to a 3-pin plug to supply the timed live and neutral that would be highly irregular and possibly dangerous.

I think those boilers are also open vented, which means they rely on room ventilation. If you haven't had it safety checked by a Gas Safe fitter I would strongly advise you to do so urgently. The fitter should also be able to fit an appropriate timer/programmer.
