CV Layout or Template

My partner has recently been made redundant and has been seeking employment for around 4weeks now.

He has not yet had any interviews which is leading us to think his CV might be a problem.

It's a template I got online and have used myself but just wondered if it was a bit too plain and simple.

He doesn't have a particular profession as his previous job was quite specialised and so is seeking various types of employment: warehouse, driver, factory and manual work, etc.

Current CV is laid out as follows:

Personal Details
Employment Details
Key Skills
Education
Interests
References (Quoted will supply if required)

He always alters his CV for each job and supplies a cover letter or email which is quite well written but short enough not to go on and on.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Take off the interests/hobbies, unless they relate directly to the job on offer delete them they are irrelevant and I have discarded CVs before based on the candidates hobbies.

I had an employer get back to me once and ask me why there was nothing about what I did in my private time on my CV and could I list my interests and get back to him!

And there is some people who only hire people who use size 14 font. Doesn't mean you should use size 14 font.

And there are some who wont interview you with no interests listed. I was just pointing out what this FD said to me. He wanted to know all my outside work interests.

And a 14 front is a bit large if ask me.

We had to use Tahoma 10 at work or was a disciplinary!

hmm, hobbies are on my CV they were put on there for me by the person who did it via the JC :( I would be quite happy to remove them, I am re-doing my CV so might take them off.

If the job centre did your CV for you then it is average at best. If you are long term unemployed average is not going to be sufficient.
