Mercedes C220 Diesel 55 Reg Instrument Cluster

Hello

Wondered if anyone has any advice.

Hubby's Car was fine on Friday. Wasn't used again until Monday afternoon. Doors opened and car started fine but nothing lit up on the dashboard. Called the AA. They connected it to the diagnostic thing and said the dashboard is dead and possibly needs a new instrument cluster.

Took it to independent Merc garage who said "the dashboard wouldn't 'talk' to the computer. He is looking into it for us but just wondered if anyone had any experience of this problem or could offer any advice. We are in the Walsall area.

Thank you

DD

  • Just thought I would let you know (if anyone is interested) that we googled bba reman and others. Hubby spoke to bba reman and Cartronix and decided to send the part to Cartronix in Hampshire, probably nothing to choose between the two but made his mind up while on the phone. We took the car back to the independent Merc garage on Wednesday afternoon, he took the instrument cluster out, we packed it in his reception and he very kindly gave us extra bubble wrap and his packing tape. Left our car at his Garage. Took the parcel to the Post Office, sent it Special Delivery before 1.00 pm insured for £1000 - cost £12.00.

Parcel was received and signed for by Cartronix @ 9.54 am Thursday. Cartronix phoned early afternoon to say it had been repaired. We paid by debit card over the phone and they despatched it by Interlink. Interlink delivered to us approx 9.30 am today. Cost £150 plus £12.95 delivery.

Took the cluster back to the indy Merc garage who tested it etc, everything OK, put in back in car and everything is working perfect - all data retained.

Paid indy mechanic for his time - he had taken the part out and put it back in twice, tested it twice, garaged our car overnight plus phoning round - he could have sorted it all but usually uses a different company, however, they would have taken 4/5 days and hubby wanted it done a bit quicker. Pleased with his service and OH is going to take car there for it's service in March.

Am I allowed under Forum rules to say who the garage is?

A big Thank You to Colino & Worried Jim.
