Disability discount

I have just started to change my energy supplier from npower to edf, simply because my house had prepayment meters when I moved in and npower want to charge me £60 per meter to change to a credit meter. Anyway I have just been made aware that we have been entitled to a discount on energy as my daughter gets disability living allowance. My problem is that I never knew this and as I am now in the process of changing suppliers does this mean I cannot claim it back from npower? I have lived in this house using npower for 7 years and was never aware about this discount.

No you can only be assessed for this year from your supplier ( If it's still open) and you need to still be on supply with them when the payments are made. You cannot have it back dated. Also having a disabled person in the house does not mean that you get it. There are other qualifying factors not least the household income.

  • EDF are taking over on the 20th of January so can I apply to them? I have checked the criteria and we definitely qualify.

There is no disability discount only warm home discount and you cant have that back dated. Plus you need to qualify for it

    or

    http://www.npower.com/spreading_warmth/home/warm-home-discount/

npower customers are eligible for the Broader Group Warm Home Discount if they are in receipt of any of the following:
    • Income Support
    • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Who also have any of following:
    • Child Tax Credit
    • a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or sever disability premium
    • Disability Living Allowance (For an adult or child within the household) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP)
    • Long term Incapacity Benefit
    • In addition if anyone has Child Tax Credit that includes a disability or severe disability element, a child under five living with them, or a disabled child premium – However it is likely they are also already in receipt of Child Tax Credit
To apply for the Broader Group Warm Home Discount you will be required to provide a declaration that you meet the eligibility criteria of the scheme, and to continue receiving the discount on an annual basis will be required to provide further declarations.

Of course you can apply to EDF as long as this years scheme is still open. Check their website for the end date.
