Vent - 'Debt management' calls/texts!

Options
Anyone else been bombarded with calls/texts from this bunch of idiots?

I've just had a lovely call from a company stating that my 'payday loans' can be frozen etc, to which they seemed surprised when I mentioned that the only debt I have is business trade debt, plus a CC that will be paid in full at end of the month.

Did I spend more than I wanted at Christmas? Probably
Am I in debt over it? Errm, no!

Excluding message from Si, this is the only message I've not replied to across 4 days, and they're becoming more frequent!

You'd think these companies would get the message!

  • Is that a smartphone you've got?

I think there are apps for those that can be used to block the senders of spam texts (I'm not sure as I'm still running a 2G Nokia).

I've blocked the numbers as the calls/texts have come in (I'm running iPhone with latest iOS.

If anyone else wants to know how to do it, PM me and I'll find the options to let you know.

In the message (or call log) select 'contact' then 'i' then scroll down and select 'block this caller' - will block calls and texts. Though obviously no use for the crafty ones that block their own number from showing.

Apologies for rubbish typing - on my iPhone.

How do you block the number withheld ones?

    1. Never reply to them. Do not send them a STOP message. By doing that you are confirming your number is valid and active.
    2. If your phone service provider has a spam reporting service, use that. For O2, that means you forward the text to 7726. No need to do anything else.
    3. See step 1.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

I've had another load today (and don't want to start another thread on the matter)

    It's a little like:

With some of these companies this year!

So who have you given your number to?

I actually used an old laptop. Just in case the links were dodgy. Followed them through and got the phone number to a UK PPI company.

I phoned them about 100 times. Gave them the silent call treatment. Except some youtube spam songs every now and then.

Kids had some private hospital trying to sell them a plan.. They didnt like me phoning to complain.

The ones that have really, REALLY annoyed me are the ones to my landline from ambulance-chasers. They call saying that they have heard that xxxxx in our household has sustained an injury and that they can help us to claim compensation. These have all occurred within two weeks of one of us attending A&E which means that the only way that they could have obtained our details is a) from the NHS b) they have an employee sat close enough to the reception desk so that they can overhear, and note down, your details as you give them on 'booking in'. Both scenarios are, quite frankly, disgusting and devious!
