NI reg'd GB plate car onto an NI plate?

Options
Hi,

I have a GB plated car registered in NI.

It is on a GB '02' plate, which really shows the age now, even though it looks newer than it is. (Although people here don't really have a clue how the GB system works - I'm sure some think it's some sort of personal plate...)

I would ideally like to change it for an NI plate (which are ageless), but would anyone - especially NI motorists on here - know the procedure for doing this?

Is there a particular form?

Do I need to wait until the tax is up again and re-tax it at the DVA office and ask for a new registration mark?

Buy a plate. Pay DVLA £80 is it? to transfer it.

Get the MOT documents changed with it then phone the insurance and change the details. Another fee probably.

DVLA have nothing to do with it. They are in Swansea, and only deal with cars on the East side of the Irish Sea.

You need the DVLNI in Coleraine.

As you say the car is already registered in NI - by that I take it that it already is on the data base there - I suggest you just take all your paperwork, go in person to Coleraine and ask for a new NI number - they should give you a current number, not an age related one.

If they won't or can't do that then you can buy a plate from an NI seller on e-Bay - they start at £15 and Coleraine charges the same as Swansea to swap them over - £80

Likewise, half the folk in GB think that an NI plate is a personal plate :D
