    It sounds to me that you either don't want to leave your current employment or you are not convinced the new job is the right one for you.

    True but the 6k pay hike has me salivating..

    So, lets say I hand my notice in tomorrow but want to start Monday; where do I stand ?

    There is little that your current employer can do about it. You only liability is that if your employer brings in a temp to cover your role for the length of your notice period then you are technically liable for the difference between the salary they paid you and the salary they pay the temp.

    The only way they can reclaim this cost is through the Small Claims Court and as such it is highly unlikely that for the sake of a few quid they would want to go to the hassle of issuing proceedings against you.
