Was it a freephone number? A geographic number? Or an 0845/0870 number?

I phoned 5 numbers in all. I think three were 0800 and the last one was 08452700700. On the last number I pretended I was a new customer so pressed the correct numbers to get through and guess what? By pretending to be a new customer I got through straight away.

I told the nice young man that answered the phone that I wan't happy and I'd tried other numbers and that I thought I just might get through if I pretended to be a new customer as SP would want to give a good impression.

I explained to him that I was seething as I only wanted to give in my meter readings. He was very nice and remained calm. He told me which number to dial and what to do.

I dialed the number and followed his instructions. Easy. Now why couldn't that info be available online?

I couldn't give my readings online becasue I didn't have a bill or letter with my account number on it.

That happened to me last year with me AA renewal. I chose the options for leaving (so I could negotiate a better deal) but couldn't get through ... I would be on hold for 10 minutes and then the phone actually cut out.

I called the sales number and Bang - straight through.

PS - why don't you edit your post to add the instructions the SP guy gave you, so as to help others in future?

    Can't that be done online?
    It's someone else's fault.

Yes they can, In "My Account"

But ring up wait to get through and then write a post on here complaining you get through is so much more productive though.
