Clio leaks and Drying a car out

I have a Renault Clio which has a leak (has a sunroof). The water seems to end up in the passenger foot-well many mornings recently I have come out to find a puddle (not just a little bit enough to use a cup to clear it).
This is also causing the inside of the windscreen to freeze up because of the excess water.
I plan to silicone up my sunroof (i very rarely use it to stop any water leaking through which I'm hoping stops the leak).
I believe with Clio's there's some ducts that get blocked up which can cause water to overflow into the foot-wells? Any ideas what these are called and where they are positioned so I can try to unblock these?
Does anyone have any ideas how I can dry out my car? I added a few bowls of rice last night which I've read soaks up much of the water in the air, but I need to dry my car out.
It a cheap run around I dont really want to pay £200 to get it fixed as I've seen quoted on some sites. And i dont want to change my car I cant really afford it. I simply want to dry my car out, unblock the ducts and seal up the sun roof.
any help or ideas are much appreciated.

Best way would be to take out the front seats, carpet and underlay. The underlay will be soaked. You can refit the carpet and seats and dry the underlay out indoors or in airing cupboard, or bin it depending how rot it is.
You sure its the sunroof leaking and not the heater matrix?"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
If there are drainage channels for the sunroof they will be inside the sunroof aperture. Have a look with a torch.
The quickest way to make sure there are no leaks is to use gaffer tape. Doesn't last forever and doesn't look brilliant but will confirm right away if the leak is from the sunroof.0 -
is one of the cheap flip up roofs?lbm 11/06/12 dept total 11499.470

No idea of the age of your Clio, but I remember reading on the Parkers forum some years back that often it isn't the sunroof that is leaking - it is the aerial mount.0

This is/was a common problem with Disco 1 and 2. The sun roof aperture has two drain holes with tubes that lead through the roof lining and exit near the rear wheels. Pop up the sunroof, find the holes, and clear with a long piece of thin wire. If those tubes were blocked, the water would pour into the roof lining and soak everything, even if the sunroof seals were good.
Not sure if that will help the OP, but it's worth having a close look at the well the sunroof sits in.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
If it's just a basic flip up sunroof then you won't have drain holes. If it's one that slides back under the roof you will. With renaults they usually have long pipes attached that go down into the wheel arch behind the plastic where they silently drain the water out all over the metal lol. The bottom of these pipes can get clogged up so you might need to take out the plastic from the wheel arches to find the pipes and clear them.
As for the footwell don't bother taking out the carpet and seat - thats hassle.
Instead make sure you've fixed the leak. Wooden cat litter pellets under the carpet work a treat as they soak up the water very well and then break up into sawdust - easy to hoover out. They also dry the carpet and foam out brilliantly too.0 -
The water channels run down the A pillar into the bulkhead area under the window washer bottle.
Just had my GF's Clio sunroof fixed.
I used these guys £150 if I remember.

Good luck getting it sorted - I never managed to solve the leak in my ageing Clio. I had the sunroof looked at professionally resealed and goodness knows on various occasions but it never lasted. The sunroof chap said that if its a factory fitted one the plastic warps and its really hard to find a permanent solution. My (rather unhelpful ) solution was to get rid of the car.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Also, the bulkhead under the bonnet has two rubber bungs, look under the wiper area and find the bulk head bungs and clean them out, they can take some doing.
When they get blocked the water runs through the pollen filter, out of the pollen filter and leaks through the vents on the floor under the seats.Be happy...;)0 -
my son had 2 Cleo's with the same problem he changed the rubbers but still leaked in the end he just sealed the sunroof shut with a good silicone sealer. As said in a previously it is a well common fault with cleos0
