Hi all,

I think I know where I stand on this one, but would love for someone to sum it up more eloquently for me!

Around 6 months ago, I requested and paid for 10 bags of confidential waste to be taken away and shredded.

It took ages to be collected, we each missed a couple of appointments etc., they gave me a suitable date two weeks ago, but I was away so my brother stayed at the flat to let them collect the bags.

They collected the ten "official" bags that they sent me, which I had paid for.

They also took away 5 black bin bags of paper, that were in the shed next to the white bags for shredding. The guy collecting the waste did not know how many he was supposed to be taking, nor did my brother, so these black bin bags were taken away for shredding too.

This did not need shredding, nor did I want them to shred it.

They have now sent me an invoice requesting payment for the 5 additional bags.

Where do I stand?

Thanks in advance.

Their fault. They should have known what their own bags looked like. Politely decline their request for additional payment as this was not contracted.

10 bags full seems like an awful lot for an individual. It wasnt business documents was it?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

@bod1467 - thanks for advice, this is along the lines of what I was planning, either that or meeting them half way...

@unholyangel - not sure why it's relevent, no it was personal documents.

It could be relevant as consumer rights are different to the rights a business user has when getting goods or services from a business supplier.

You could always counter-claim against them for the value of your property which they have taken and destroyed without your permission.
