Laptop colour profiles

Hello. ;) I feel like I'm taking over the board with all my questions!

I have a new Lenovo Ideapad y510p, which is lovely...except the display is a little off. Skin tones look washed out. I've re-calibrated the display which has helped a little but, but someone suggested to me that maybe I need a new colour profile and that these can be downloaded from the web.

Now, I'm not a techie novice. I know my way around computers etc but I've never done this before and have no idea how to go about it or if specific colour profiles are needed for certain laptops etc.

Please may someone advise me?

Thank you. :o

I've got a Huey Pro, which is a low-end (ie, not properly calibrated) calibration device. You put it on the front of your display, run some calibration software, and it gives you a colour profile. It's OK rather than perfect; the big boys' devices are similar, but are then themselves calibrated against Pantone chips under calibrated light. But it's better than nothing. Unfortunately, Pantone seem to have pulled out of the market and the devices aren't easy to get any more, but I guess EBay would have a few for sale.

You could see if you could find such a colour profile for the Y510p on the Lenovo support website, though on a quick skate through I could only find things like Intel drivers.

A review says: "The LG panel (LP156WF1-TLB2) left us with a very favorable impression. Aside from the second-rate brightness distribution (83%) and the less-than-perfect color accuracy, the display does not have a lot of weaknesses."

Thank you both. I'm watching a couple of calibration devices on Ebay. I'm a photographer and digital artist so accurate colour representation is important.

I've Googled for a colour profile for the model of laptop to no avail. :(

Check out a colormunki device. Good 2nd hand prices on ebay. These profile LCD screens very well. You can also profile your printer and any different paper stocks you might be printing onto.

    Highly recommended.
