Damn. That's annoying. Wanted to use flatscreens in the business for promotional use.

I suppose I could just take a chance and if it develops a stuck pixel just sell it on to a third party for 1/3 less of what I paid for it.

LCD Monitors aren't different to LCD TVs. Ever heard of screen savers? Ever wonder what they're for? (they SAVE the SCREEN from burn in!). Originally designed for CRT screens but still relevant to plasma and LCD.

I think screensavers are more about saving energy. My computer runs for 14 hours of the day on most working days. Start button is static on the screen for most of that time. No ghosting or burn what so ever,

As per my post earlier, an image won't cause a "stuck pixel" this is *not* the same as ghosting or burn, dead pixels can occur at the time or manufacture or any other time afterwards.

Some screen technologies are susceptible to "burn", others not - again as per my previous post...

Wrong. How is it saving energy if its still on?

Save energy you need to power it off.

They were used to save screen burn as mentioned already. Going back to the 90's the place i worked in had a computer in the front window with the logo etc. Turn the montior off and the logo was clearly visible.

LCD's are not as prone but it can still happen. My Samsung phone had it to some degree. Have a super bright white image and you can see a shadow where the home screen buttons were.

Have a full screen white page and you may see the shadow of your start button.

Ok confused screensaver with screen shutdown.

I don't think screensavers are ever used anymore. Most windows computers just switch the screen off when it's left idle for a long time. I think if you want to use a screensaver you have to enable it and disable the screen power saving.

The 'blank' windows screen saver saves power, any idiot can prove that with a power draw meter at the mains, saves a few watts on my surface pro when I want to keep it downloading or allow access to shares without sleep kicking in.

Never ever heard of an LCD monitor, whether TN or IPS having long term problems with image retention. I have a couple of old LG screens, been on about 6 months straight showing graphs and mostly static icons, never had a problem.

I'd still avoid plasma OP, but any current LCD based TV will be fine.
