Getting Canadian credit report from UK

Options
Hey guys, I have a pretty unique situation I was hoping you could help me with. I need to get a Canadian credit check for a new job in banking as I lived there for 4 years. I have looked online and everywhere I have looked requires me to have a current canadian address in order to get a credit report.

Is it possible that I can get a Canadian credit check, even though I am a British citizen and I now live in the UK?

I have all my previous addresses and my SIN number, I just can't find anywhere online that will let me get my credit report.

Thanks in advance.

No - as long as you give the correct previous addresses, they should all link in to your current file.

It all hinges on which firms have which agreements with their subsidiaries or associated CRA's.
  • So to confirm, you mean I can't get a Canadian credit report?

British credit reports do not show data from Canada.

You will need to find what law governs the request of credit reports in Canada.

In the UK the right to request the report a CRA holds on you is a limited version of the general right to a subject access request under the UK Data Protection Act. There must be some equivalent in Canada that you can use to force disclosure of the data they hold on you.

  • The role is through an agency. They have got my information to do the UK credit report, but have asked me to get the Canadian one.
