Board up window?

We have a front porch which joins onto the neighbours', there is a small window in the dividing panel which I don't like, as I like my privacy. To avoid taking the window out, I want to board it up from our side. It will need to be white on both sides, but I'm not sure what to get.
I have posted a picture so you can see what I mean, this is the view from my front door. The bottom bit had some sort of panelling in it, but we wallpapered over it years ago. There is a small frame round it to fix something to it.
Could someone advise me what to get, as we have a wood place down the road, but don't have a clue what to ask for.
Thanks in advance.

Why not get - frosted glass .... and place a nice blind over that too...
A tapestry or curtains on a pole0 -
plastic covering placed onto the glass to look like frosted glass ...0

Another vote for frosting - you can get the stick on stuff, which looks fine.
Not seen this kind of construct before. Do you own the window? How will the neighbour react if you execute your chosen plan? My neighbour cut up rough when I erected a six foot fence on my boundary many year's back (replacing the builder installed wire fence). They like to chat over the fence whereas I like to chose the moment for a chin wag (so I am totally with you). Funny thing was, I thought I was doing them a favour (privacy for free).0 -
Thanks for your replies. I have seen the frosting before, not sure If I like it though.
I don't think she will say anything to be honest. When building her extension at the back, which affected us and involved having some of our fencing removed to be replaced by a brick wall, she never discussed it with us and only told us 3 days before it was started.
She doesn't really talk to us and is an ignorant wotsit and that's the reason why I want to do it, as I don't want to see into her porch and her into ours.
I'm with you on the fences as well. Our boundary fence with her are only half size, but I like the tall ones. Replacing them though would involve replacing the concrete posts and it's just too much work, so we've not bothered.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090 -
We used something like this once

Was a nice quick way to frost the window...had to take your time to ensure even coverage though.

I've used the spray frosting too, but have found it can get scratched quite easily - ours is on a window with original shutters and somehow we always manage to knock the glass when opening/closing them
In a previous house we also had the stick on stuff, but I could never quite get it to be bubble-freeMortgage-free for fourteen years!

I imagine this situation has grown from porches being gradually extended, then enclosed, over the years?
But apart from the privacy issue, is there a security issue here? Is your (or your neighbour's) main entrance door the inner one or the outer one?
You see where I'm going with this - if, at some point, one of you makes the outer door their main entrance door, an intruder could enter the porch door next door, break though the window, then they're in your house. Then what would your insurance say?
I'd be inclined to ask your neighbour what she thinks and see if you can agree to fill it in permanently - I don't suppose she wants to look into your house either?0 -
looks like a bad situation! As above re the insurance/risk of breakin/fire spread!
I would speak to neighbour about getting the window taken out and plasterboard stud wall erected instead.
if she says no, then just put studwork up on your side, frosting the glass beforehand so it looks half-decent for her, and plasterboard & paint/wallpaper your side for final finish.
failing all of that, a decent made-to-measure roller blind and keep it closed.GC Jan £431.490/£480.00  £48.51 under budget!0 -

I opted for the frosting for now. I got this one from Ebay Clicky Just to clarify, there isn't a security issue here as both mine and neighbours property are accessed through the inner door, so they are separate residences. The porch wasn't there when the houses were built, they were added later. Some houses have a porch on the road, some don't.
I'm not sure who "owns" the window as such, as this porch was already here when we moved in and we had different neighbour then. The trouble is with the window, there's no point in me cleaning it, as it doesn't make any difference because she doesn't clean her side, it has paint splashes on and when she's painted round the frame on her side, there's paint on the window. I just had to clean our side to stick the frosting.
I am quite pleased with the result and it's easily removeable. We are discussing having a new porch door and new windows and we might get a new partition put in, so the frosting will be temporary really. That won't be until next year though.
I'm not sure if she'll say anything, but I done it while she's out.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090
