OMG I'm so bad at press ups!! I can do ten at a push and those are the ones with my knees on the floor lol.
I might give this a go though, who knows I might be able to do a real press up one dayalso I suppose it would help gaining strength to do the variations that I can never manage.
Thanks for the link :TEven if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -
Or go to Nerd Fitness and look up the Beginner's Bodyweight Workout

Hi,
Do you have any particular body weight exercises/routines that you do or possibly any good websites that would help?
I'm not keen on joining a gym and don't have room for one at home and was wondering what can really be achieved without buying weights. I do have some small hand weights (only 2kg) and use them when I do squats... but can't do this too much because of a bad knee.
I'm slowly changing my diet and eating cleaner but I'm wondering if I'm being unrealistic. I enjoy exercise but would like to get more out of it in a tiny space.
Sorry to hijack the threadthe replies are interesting
I have a dodgy knee too, but my personal trainer says if you build up strength by doing squats that can help your knee. Obviously don't push it to hard you don't want to do more damage.
I'm on a similar goal to the OP, but my goal is to build a bit more muscle as I'm lacking. So I need to eat more protein from things like chicken, salmon, mackerel, beef.
I'm also finding now that drinking more water is helping me. I never used to drink that much.0 -
Eat real food - nothing processed or convenience. Avoid refined carbs like the plague, ditto anything that calls itself 'low fat'. Don't drink fizzy pop - not even the zero calorie stuff. And don't buy salty snacks. You'll find you don't need as much food in order to feel full. If you nibble because you're bored, find something else to do - and if you don't buy unhealthy food, then the odd little nibble isn't the end of the world anyway!! My favourite snack is cherry tomatoes.
I'm 53, 5'8" and weigh 9 stone 3 pounds. There are whole aisles at the supermarket that I don't even bother walking down.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Just a quick update. Have had 2 further sessions with the trainer at the gym. The last was this morning. I'm still no thinner
my trainer keeps going on about how much fitter and healthier I am but it's not what I'm interested in! I'm sorry if this sounds vain but I just want to be thinner, I want to be able to go clothes shopping and be able to fit into clothes in regular shops, to not be the fat one in my group of friends, I don't want to be big and fit! My trainer has again changed my routine putting more cardio at a harder rate in and suggested I'm not being honest about my food intake  why would I bother lying?!! All I'd need to do is alter my food if that was the case!! Am so frustrated and depressed with it all, have even started taking xls medical after my food to see if that'll help

You've not once mentioned what your diet is like. You're wasting your time going to the gym.
You're probably still eating the same food that made you fat.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

Oh, so you can read minds and know what the OP's diet is like and the reason why OP has put on weight.
If there was an award for the most unhelpful, arrogant and rude post this would be a good candidate.
OP I would ignore your trainer's comments, if he doesn't understand that it's totally possible not to lose weight while eating a reduced calories diet it sounds like he's not very good at his/her job. I would change trainer straight away, you don't pay him to call you a liar.
It's worth checking if you have any medical conditions that could be effecting your metabolism, for example PCOS. Also during your periods hormonal changes could give you water retention.
Also are you recording your calories intake accurately? Maybe the data you use is wrong, some of the users' data on MFP is way off, you'd better double check. Also if you don't weigh your foods you might be getting it wrong estimating portion sizes.
I wouldn't waste money buying slimming pills if I were you though.
Lastly, don't get too depressed about it. Your husband-to-be loves you for who you are, not everybody is meant to be thin and I really believe you don't need to be thin to be fab.
You can only try your best, but don't let it ruin your life, it's not worth it. Being fitter and healthier it's already a great result, more than what many people will achieve in their lifetime0 -
Thank you terra ferma, I've just looked at yesterday on mfp which was as follows:
Breakfast (approx 8.20 at work)
Oats 2 go 202 cals
1 sugar. 16
Lunch (approx 12.10)
1 tin chicken veg soup 198 cals
Hot chocolate instant. 115cals
Dinner (approx 6pm)
2 sainsburys sausages 254 cals
Coop petit pain x2. 500
Ketchup. 36cals
2 after eights 70 cals
+ plenty of water
= 1391 cals according to mfp
Breakfast and lunch are usually the same type of thing, dinner is norm meat and veg but was sausage sarnies last night. I usually go to the gym before work, approx 6.30-7.30am I'm not ready to give up yet, but am pretty fed up :-(0
