Help! How to get thinner!

Hi All,

As the title says, I'd like to be thinner. I get married in late May and would like to look my best. I currently weigh 14stone and am 5ft6. I joined the gym about 3 weeks ago and go 3-4 times a week doing a mix of cardio and weights for 45mins a session. I'm using My fitness Pal and eating approx 1200-1500 cals a day. My job is office bound :( so not much movement there. The thing is, my weight hasn't changed since the day I started all this. I'm definately fitter and have been increasing the difficulty on the cardio stuff and number of reps on the weights but I'm no thinner  . Can anyone give me any advice as to what I'm doing wrong, or maybe a different diet to try? I've booked another session with one of the gym instructors to see if they have any more words of wisdom but thought I's ask here too.

Thanks for any useful tips! :)

Do you weigh your food or are you guestimating. also cardio is all well & good butt o really change shape you need to lift heavy things.

MFP is a wonderful resource but their stupid daily calorie calculation is wrong.

Go to fitness frog & work out your TDEE then take 500 cals off of that to see what you should be eating.

Alos how honest are you with yourself? If you are having binges or sneaking food & not logging then you will never lose weight.

Eat cleaner, less processed food, more home cooked, fat is your friend, sugar is not.

Butter, full fat milk, cream, cheese, eggs, these are all good foods, do not fall for 80's hype that these things are bad. Remove anything with the word, low fat or diet from your fridge & cupboards. Theya re full of crap that has the opposite effect to what you want to acheive.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Another thing I have noticed in terms of what I eat is the more protien & the lower carb my diet is the more weight I lose. The down side is that it is quite hard to maintain but slowly reducing the amount of bread, potatoes, rice & pasta will have a noticeable difference.

I once lost 10lbs in a week by eating nothing but protien, zero carbs. I overdosed on meat, eggs, fish, tofuc, egg whites, vegetables & salad. It was a pre holiday quick fix but dayum, I didn't calorie count at all & ate all day but still lost 10lbs.

I didn't actually gain any back either once I went back to including small amounts of bread, rice, pasta etc but I think that is becuase I reintroduced them slowly & moderately.

  • Heavier weights, less reps. And you don't eat enough. :)

Slimming world & Weight watchers have a model they follow, they promote a low fat diet, which is fine if you want to do that but I prefer to eat food that tastes good & provides me with nutrition without the added preservatives, additives & saccarine needed to make something Low fat yet taste as good as the real thing.

I've not used a low fat or diet product in over 6 years, I've lost over 110lbs, gained some back though just not exercising & hitting the sugar again (I heart sugar too much) but lost anther 30+ in the last 6 monhts following my eat normal food in moderation program.

  • IMHO, SW and WW only work for as long as you follow them - they are built on a model that helps people fail so they'll keep coming back.

I'd say try Atkins or Dukan style diet both of which are into proteins.
Avoid low fat anything like the plague - just compare the different types (low fat / normal) and see how they are loaded with various forms of sugar.
Think meat, eggs, veg, salads! Also fill up with veg rather than loads of fruit (sadly also sugar, even if a natural form)

  • Or...just change to a healthier lifestyle? Calling yourself "on a diet" or using a "diet plan" has a tendency to put you in a certain mindset...

Do not eat bread or potatoes.
It will do nothing for 3 weeks then drop off.
    Be happy...;)
