Slow Cooker - Piping Hot?

Options
I've only used mine a few times, but yesterday when I took my sweet and sour chicken out of it, it wasn't piping hot like you'd expect it to be.

It was cooked and everything, just not as hot as I was expecting. Is this normal? I had it on slow from 9.30am to about 5pm.

  • You are lucky - I got a new INDESIT cooker via ARGOS last May, it never worked - finally fused everything in September - gave me electric shocks -- gave INDESIT engineer a shock - but he never put this in his two line report .... waited four months for ARGOS to deliver a replacement cooker (AFTER TWO REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY SAID I COULDNT HAVE A NEW COOKER)because 'they don't work saturdays' and I work five days a week
AND the engineers didn't try the cooker out because the fuse had gone with the last cooker - so i came home to a newly installed cooker that wasnt working - i had to put the fuse in to try it - ARGOS say they owe me no compensation for long wait - electric shocks - lack of service - no replies to many phone calls etc and promises not kept and wrong information given .... what about that for a cooker experience? to boot the new cooker delivered December has a faulty switch so I don't know when oven is on and what temperature .... great service argos...

Get yourself a food thermometer, they aren't expensive.

Thanks for this. It's not that I didn't think the food was cooked, just I'd prefer it a bit hotter.

Would a remedy be to switch the cooker to high for the last hour or so?

Sorry to hear of your problems with your cooker.

I get the feeling she thought you were branding your cooker as "slow" rather than discussing the performance of your "slow cooker!"

Did you just have it on low or warm? I always put mine on hot for half hour before serving and it's piping hot. HTH.

Haha, cheers for this. Didn't even occur to me, but then reading back I can kinda see that he/she might have thought I was talking about a different kind of cooker. Still didn't actually help me though.

The last couple of times, but then I've only used it those two times in the last couple of years. And I put it on low both times. I will try the high setting and see if that works.

I like the idea of a slow cooker, but so far the two things I have cooked tasted more or less the same. Hmm. I will carry on experimenting.

Mine produces hot food regardless of whether it's on low or high. If it's old it may be worth replacing it?
