thanks for all your replys. i am sure it will look fine when it is all plastered up, from the outside it looks ace. i was just concerned about the fixings really and if they would hold. as the gap between the brick and the inside of the frame is about 90mm how much of the screw/bolt securing to the brick work is actually in the brick?
and then once that is delt with it is still really drafty, am i correct in thinking that there should be zero draft from the door?
you hear so many horror story's about this sort of stuff
The door should seal properly. If you are not happy ask the company to return and correct the issue.0 -
he has so far,
adjusted the hinges, so that they now look a little wonkey, he has removed the central keep and used a packer behind it and some silicone and there are 2 screws in the middle of the keep that you can loosen and slide a bar side to side and he has moved that over as much as it will go. this is why he used packers behind the keep he said.
from what i can see the hinge adjustment only moved the door side to side not forward and backwards, and it needs moving forwards.
as you look at the door from the outside, the bottom right rubber seal is tight and as you go up the door the gap gradually gets bigger and bigger until you get to the top right corner where it is large enough to get a piece of card folded in half into the gap with no problems.
thanks again for you advice i really appreciate it.0 -
quite simply your not happy
and neither would i be, it sounds like the frame has been pulled out of true, adjusting the hinges will do nothing. personaly i would ask for a properly sized frame and door to be remade and fitted properly0 -
Sill, frame etc should all be level and upright, by the sounds of it the door has a slight twist in the frame, the only way to correct that is to take the screws out move frame to correct position and refix, literally a 5min job but as they have finished the outside all nice and neat, it seems they're trying to overcome the issue by packing the keep and moving the hinges.0

They have been back today and removed all the screws from the lock side and the top of the frame and packed the front of the frame between the plaster and the frame to push it back. they have then drilled into the brick at a different angle through the same holes in the frame and then put the screws back in place to hold it. and then replaced the trim round the door inside and out. the door look fine now and there is no draft. so i think they have sorted it from a draft point of view. time will tell from a secure point of view.
thanks for all your help and replys, lets hope it lasts!0
