Back to the original post...

I was just wondering if anyone could help .

I am having to get rid of my cat and have a insurance policy with direct line , if i cancel do i get my payments back? I have had the insurance for two years, never used it , and it isn't due for renewal until July.

thanks

Are you asking if you cancel now whether you'll get two years worth of payments back?

If so, I am gobsmacked! Definitely NOT.

Also not so fond of the term 'get rid.'

No you won't, and you'll have to keep paying until July too. Hopefully your cat will find a better home and you'll realise a pet isn't just a commodity to throw away at your leisure. It's another life, not some faulty goods you can return to a shop.

Have to share the sentiments of the above with regard to "get rid of". However Direct Line pet insurance is unusual in that it is a monthly policy rather than an annual policy. According to their policy document to cancel you just need to stop making your monthly payments although personally I would also phone them to advise them you wish to cancel. But NO you certainly can't get back what you have already paid as you have had the benefit of the insurance!
  • Thank you for your replies , sorry if i offended anyone with the term get rid off , couldn't think of what to say , i'm having to give her up as i'm pregnant and moving to a new house that doesn't allow pets :( and shes not good with children either, i certainly don't see her as i commodity, i've had her for 8 years . Thanks for the advice , thought i would maybe get the payments back i had made in the last year of the insurance, will cancel when i find her a new home , thanks again :)

From reading their policy, it sounds like they don't refund any money unless you're within your 14 day cooling off period at the start of the policy (and no claims have been made)

From this (not quite the question you're asking but same kind of outcome) it sounds like you'd just pay for the one month and then you're done - so you wouldn't be left paying until July. I would ring to clarify this though
